Regional Heritage & Museums
Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia are full of history and culture. The area's is considered America's First Frontier and tells the epic stories of the early American migration as colonists moved from the east coast settlements through the Appalachian Mountains. The Wilderness Trail, and Tale & Trails showcase the many historic sites in the area dating back to colonial times.
Rocky Mount Living History Museum features first-person living history tours of the original house built by William Cobb, which served as the U.S. Terrirotial capital of the Southwest.
Travel more than four million years back in time at the Gray Fossil Site and Museum. The exciting paleontology site was discovered accidentally during road construction in the year 2000 and is considered the most significant North American site from the Miocene Age. It is nearly five acres in size and 100 feet deep.
